Private Mary Pye (Service No:VF513790) served in the AWAS from 8 September 1943 to 30 January 1947. Private Pye - graded Driver - was attached to 1 Australian Ordnance Vehicle Park. She enlisted with her younger sister Irene, and brothers Joe and Len also served in WWII.

Mary was born at Port Fairy Victoria in 1921, fourth of six children of Timothy (Dusty) William Pye (b1892 in Bessiebelle, Victoria) and Catherine (Kate) Mary Cain (b1896 in Yambuk, Victoria). Dusty (a Labourer) and Kate married in 1916 at Port Fairy, and settled at Bessibelle, where they raised their family and Dusty was a Labourer.

Mary was engaged in 'Home Duties' in Bessiebelle prior to her enlistment in the Army. In 1947 at Port Fairy she married Charles Ferdinand Godde (b1924 in Wodonga, Victoria) - Charles was a Farmer in Wodonga. Mary and Charles settled at Huon Creek via Wodonga, where they raised their family and Charles was a Dairy Farmer. In the late 1950s Mary and Charles moved to Buffalo River South via Ovens, Victoria where Charles was a Dairy Farmer, before settling in Myrtleford via Ovens - Charles was a Shire Employee. Mary died in 2000 and Charles in 2005.
