Middle East Area of Operations Service

26 Dec 1940:	Embarked Australian Military Forces (WW2) , Signalman, NX20505, Army Signals Corps, The unit was part of the Allied Forces (Lustre Force) sent to Greece to support the Greek Army against a German invasion. The unit was involved in the rapid retreat from Greece.

World War 2 Service

12 Aug 1942:	Embarked Australian Military Forces (WW2) , Signalman, NX20505, Army Signals Corps, John served in New Guinea, but also spent a significant time in hospital and convalescing due to malaria which plagued him his whole life.
25 Nov 1944:	Discharged Australian Military Forces (WW2) , Signalman, NX20505, Army Signals Corps
