Leslie Jean Meldrum was the daughter of Jack Edwin Meldrum (b1899 in Geraldton, WA) and Catherine Williams (b1902 in the Murchison, WA). Jack (a Fuel Man with WAGR) and Catherine married in 1923 in Fremantle WA. Jack worked for the WAGR in Fremantle and Merredin WA as a Labourer (Fuel Man and Raker out of Timbers) and died in Merredin in 1931. Catherine remarried in 1933 (Edwin Fernley) and settled in Perth WA.
Leslie was single in 1943 and working as a Photographer's Assistant in Fremantle when she enlisted in the AWAS (Gunner; Service No:WF91343) in January. That year she married Gunner CG Smith (Service No:WX130495) and was attached to 55 AA Search Light Battery when she was Discharged in March 1945.
Leslie and Clem settled in Perth WA where Clem worked as a Panel Beater and Tramways Employee. Leslie died in 1972 and Clem in 1996.
