Son of Walter Devereaux Abercrombie and Kate Urquhart of Croxted Road, Dulwich, London, England.

Previously served with the Dulwich College Officers Training Corps for four years.

23 April 1915 - enlisted at Liverpool, NSW, with the 2nd Battalion and with the rank of Private.

8 August 1915 - wounded in action. Wound to the finger

10 July 1919 - discharged in London, England demobilised to Russian Relief Force with the Royal Fusiliers number 133056.
