Private Albert Charles Le Serve (Service No:VX9430) initially served in the Militia (Private; Service No:188937) in 1935 with 37/52 Battalion, and enlisted in the AIF on 5 December 1939 - graded Driver. Private Le Serve served with 2/1 Field Workshop in the UK and Suez. Returnng to Melbourne in 1941, Private Le Serve was attached to Australian Depot Battalion at Discharge on 18 April 1942 - medically unfit for service.
Bert was born in Lang Lang, Gippsland, Victoria in 1910, fourth of five children of Albert Charles Le Serv Snr (b1879 in London, England) and Lily Hannah Hunter (b1879 at Pleasant Creek, Victoria). Albert immigrated with his parents and siblings in 1884, arriving in Sydney, NSW on board the Warwick. He worked as a Labourer and Harness Maker in Lang Lang, where he and Lily married in 1905. Albert served in WWI, and he and Lily settled in Poowong, where they raised their family and Albert was a Labourer and Harness Maker. In the 1930s Albert moved to Melbourne, and later to Sydney - Lily remained in Poowong.
Bert worked in Poowong as a Hairdresser and Orchardist, and was a Truck Driver when he enlisted in the Army. In 1944, Bert married Evelyn Olive Abraham (b1916 in Geelong, Victoria) - Evelyn was a Teacher at Lake Bolace, Victoria. Bert and Evelyn settled in Poowong, where they raised their family and Bert worked as a Farmer and Bus Proprietor. Bert died in 1951 and Evelyn later remarried.
