Able Seaman Francis Alfred O'Ryan (Service No:PM8364) served with the RAN from 8 May 1945 (when he enlisted as an Ordinary Seaman- rated Able Seaman on 8 March 1946 on board HMAS Kuttabul) to 24 February 1947 - attached to HMAS Ararat at Discharge. His father served in WWI, and two older brothers in WWII.

Frank was Born in Melbourne, Victoria in 1927, youngest of three children of Charles Arnold Ryan (b1896 in Carlton, Melbourne, Victoria) and Nancy Conquit (b1898 in Wodonga, Victoria). Charles served in the Militia and worked as a Machine Worker in Melbourne before his enlistment in the AIF. In 1921 he was an Iron Worker when he and Nancy married in Melbourne, where they settled and raised their family before moving to Dandenong in the early 1940s. Charles worked as a Labourer, Iron Worker and Fitter.

Frank worked as a Clerk before enlisting in the RAN, and was active in his local Dandenong community - a member of the Dandenong Surf Lifesaving and Swimming Club and the St Mary's Tennis Club. In 1949 in Melbourne, he married Ruth Price (b1928 in Dandenong, Victoria) - Ruth worked for Market Motors, her sponsor for the 1948 Miss Australia Quest, and was active in the Dandenong community - a competitive swimmer and member of the Dandenong Surf Lifesaving and Swimming Club, the St Mary's Tennis Club and the Merrimakers Club. Frank and Ruth settled in Dandenong, where they raised their family and Frank worked as a Clerk. Frank died in 2012.
