Biography contributed by Robert Spark

Frank Spark was born on 23 October 1882 in Cassilis, a country town in NSW west of Muswellbrook. He had an older sister and 2 younger brothers. His father was manager of the local branch of The Australian Joint Stock Bank. In 1889 when Frank was aged 7, the family moved to Sydney, living in Randwick, Newtown and Marrickville. At this time his father was accountant for Elliott Brothers, a pharmaceutical and medical instrument manufacturing company in Balmain.

Frank became a carpenter and was living with his father in Petersham when he enlisted in the AIF in June 1915. He married Margaret Adeline (May) Lomas in January 1916 at Woollahra. They were living at 12 Mclean St Paddington when he embarked for Egypt to serve as a stretcher bearer during WW1.

After being medically discharged from the AIF he continued to suffer from chronic respratory infections. From 1921 to 1925 he was farming at Ooma, west of Cowra.

Frank and May moved to Concord in 1927, living with May's brother during the difficult years of the Depression.

They had one son, born in 1920

Frank died on 12 July 1943 from chronic bronchitis and emphysema. A WW1 headstone marks his grave at Rookwood Cemetery.
