Great Sydney Central Station Honour Board

James CLARK, (Service Number 2122) was born on 8 October 1884 at Hastings, Sussex, England. He began working for the NSW Railways as a fuelman at Eveleigh Locomotive Depot in October 1913 and was still in this position when he joined the Expeditionary Forces on 4 July 1915. On his Attestation Papers he gave his calling as ‘labourer’ and his sister, Annie still living in Hastings as his next of kin.

He was wounded in action on 8 November 1916, placed in the care of the 15th Australian Field Ambulance the next day and admitted to the 1st General Hospital at Etretat on 11 November but died of his wounds, a gunshot to the head, at 3.35 pm on 14 November 1916.

James CLARK, (Service Number 2122) was born on 8th October 1884 at Hastings, Sussex, England. He began working for the NSW Railways as a fuelman at Eveleigh Locomotive Depot in October 1913. He joined the Expeditionary Forces on 4th July 1915. On his Attestation Papers he gave his occupation as ‘labourer’. He named his sister, Annie, who was still living in Hastings, as his next of kin.

He left Australia from Sydney on HMAT ‘Argyllshire’ on 30th September 1915. He joined the 17th Australian Infantry Battalion at Tel-el-Kebir, Egypt, on 10th January 1916. He joined the British Expeditionary Force from Alexandria (Egypt) and via Marseilles in France where he arrived on 23rd March 1916.

He was woundedwith a gunshot to the head in action on 8th November 1916. He was placed in the care of the 15th Australian Field Ambulance the next day. He was admitted to the 1st General Hospital at Etretat on 11th November. He died of his wounds at 3.35 pm on 14th November 1916.

He is buried in Etretat Churchyard, Le Havre, Haute Normandie, France.
