Biography contributed

Bob Langevad was born in in Waverley NSW on the 5th of November 1923 and enlisted in the RANR on the 29th of November 1942.
After training at HMAS Cerberus and HMAS Lonsdale he was rated as a Ordinary Seaman and posted to HMAS Harman in August 1943. On the 26th of August 1943 Bob had a change of rate to Radio Mech (Shore), the equivalent of Able Seaman and the following day he was promoted to Leading Radio Mech (S). At this time he was transferred from the RANR to the RAN and was issued with a new service number.

Eight weeks after being promoted to Leading Radio Mech, Bob posted to HMAS Magnetic in Townsville. His SC is difficult to decipher but it appears he posted to numerous shore communication units in Australia and New Guinea over the next two years. He was advanced to Petty Officer Radio Mech on the 27th of August 1944 whilst serving at HMAS Basilisk. He had gone from recruit to Petty Officer in 21 months and from Ordinary Seaman to Petty Officer in one year and one day and was still only twenty years old!

Bob was discharged from the RAN in March 1945. In 1946 he married Daisy Lavina Kimberley at Chatswood and the couple lived in Eastwood and later in Dundas.

Bob Langevad passed away on the first of March 2013 and is buried in the Field of Mars Cemetery Ryde Sydney. His wife Daisy passed in December 2021 and is interred with Bob.
