Left Melbourne, 17 January 1917 and arrived in England late March 1917. He was sent to the Royal Flying Corps 41st Reserve Squadron, Doncaster, for instruction, 2 April 1917 and graduated in May.

He was attached for instruction to 68th Squadron, Australian Flying Corps, 4 June 1917. He was injured in aero accident May 1918.  Returned to Australia appointment terminated (discharged: medically unfit; returned to Australia to complete medical studies) June 1918.
