The funeral of the late Mr. John McKay, who died at the Mildura Hospital on Monday, will leave the hospital for the Merbein Cemetery this afternoon. The cortege will pass through Birdwoodton, where the soldier setterls are invited to fall in behind the procession and follow it to the graveside. On arrival at the cemetery gates the soldiers will fall in, in military formation, and march behind the coffin to the place of burial.
A working-bee was held on Friday on the late John McKay's block at Merbein by thirty- three 'diggers.'
An astonishing amount of work was done during the day, as recorded by the Sunraysia Daily, by this strong team of the late soldier's comrades. Fifteen rows of trellis posts were erected and bored, and a great part of the wires put in. An area of half an acre was cleared of logs and stumps, the timber neatly stacked, and the ground left ready for ploughing and planting.
