Ronald was raised in Perth, Western Australia by his widowed mother, and along with his younger brother Colin, responded to the call to arms and enlisted in the Royal Australian Navy. Ronald's elder sister Brenda also served during WW2 in the Women's Auxiliary Australian Air Force.
Ronald married Gladys Alice Butson in 1937 at at the time of his tragic death, he and his wife had a daughter Jeanette.
Ronald's sacrific for his country is remembered by his family.
