Able Seaman James Newton Scott (Service No:H2849) served in the RAN from 6 November 1944 to 24 September 1946 (HMAS Cerberus, Huon, Penguin and Swan).

Born in Hobart, Tasmania in 1926, James was fourth of five children (and only son) of James Nisbet Scott (b1892 in Kelso, Roxburgshire, Scotland) and Beatrice May Gallagher (b1891 in Hobart, Tasmania). James Snr immigrated in 1901 with his parents and siblings, arriving in Hobart on board the Tongariro. James Snr worked as a Fruit Agent in Hobart with his father and brothers, and in 1916 was granted an exemtion from military service. In 1920 in Hobart, James Snr married Beatrice May Gallagher (b1891 in Hobart, Tasmania). James Snr and Beatrice settled in Hobart, where they raised their family and James Snr was a Fruit Merchant, Timber Worker and Carpenter.

Following his Discharge from the RAN, James was a Carpenter in Bellevrive, Hobart in 1949 when he married Marion Hilda Garth (b1927 in Hobart, Tasmania) - Marion was a Typist in Hobart. James and Marion settled in Bellerive, where they raised their family and James was a Carpenter. Marion died in 1999 and James in 2007 (New Norfolk District Hospital).
