Colin Edward BILLETT
My name is Garry Billett and I am the only son of Colin Edward Billett
Colin lied about his age and tried to enlist in the Army at 14
He was soon found out when he was missing from North Sydney Boys school and had to go back a complete the Intermediate 3rd year. He joined M.M.I. insurance now ALIZANCE where he worked all his life apart from the 4 years he spend in the Navy
He was discharged on the 6th MAY 1946 as he stayed on the CORVETTES, HMAS KALGOORLIE for another year CLEARING MINES in the South China Sea
When he was discharged in May 1946 he resumed his employment with M.M.I. being the manager of Lismore them State Manager W.A. then N.S.W. and finally Head of Marketing until retirement
He was asked by the Navy to name a Naming Lady to launch the new Patrol Boat H.M.A.S. LAUNCESTON and my sister Elizabeth (BILLETT) KOCH was selected and she was at the decommissioning of her boat The Launceston
The Launceston was his first boat followed by the Burnie in doing convoys around Ceylon, Bombay / Mumbi and across to Arden
Colin / Dad died on the 17th May 2008 and the Hornsby R.S.L. provide d the White
Ensign draped over his Coffin and all the men attending the Funeral gave him a 3 cheers with a glass of O.P. Navy RUM
