Able Seaman Frank Raymond Hammond (Service No:Pm3546) enlisted in the RAN at Port Melbourne on 5 May 1941 as an Ordinary Seaman posted to HMAS Lonsdale. He was serving on board HMAS Melville when he was promoted to Able Seaman on 8 November 1942. Able Seaman Hammond served on HMAS Cerberus, Lonsdale, Sirocco, Derwent, Melbourne and Huon, and was attached to HMAS Kanimbla at Discharge on 25 January 1946.

Frank was born in Melbourne, Victoria in 1923, second of three children of Arthur Hamilton Hammond (b1892 in Penshurst, Victoria) and Gertrude Louise Huxley (b1889 at Horton, Tasmania). Arthur (a Clerk) and Gertude (a Nurse) were both working in Melbourne when they met, and married in 1919 in Currie, King Island, Tasmania. They settled in Melbourne where they raised their family and Arthur worked as a Clerk and Valuer.

Frank worked as a Clerk in Melbourne where, in 1945, he married Hilda May Haigh (b1922 in Melbourne, Victoria). Frank and Hilda lived in Melbourne where Frank worked as a Clerk before moving to Bennelong, NSW in the mid 1960s - Frank was a Bank Officer. Frank and Hilda both died in Hobart, Tasmania - Frank in 2004 and Hilda in 2015.
