Leading Stewardess Rene Harriet Smith (Service No:WR/1481) enlisted in the WRANS on 30 June 1943 and was attached to HMAS Huon when she was Discharged on 20 February 1946.
Born in 1923 at Branxholm in Tasmania, Rene was the sixth of eight children of Edgar Allen Smith (b1888 at Lower Barrington, Tasmania) and Ethel Mary Wilson (b1887 at Branxholm, Tasmania). Edgar (a Carpenter) and Ethel married in 1912 at Branxholm, Tasmania where they settled and raised their family and Edgar worked as a Carpenter.
Discharged from the WRANS in February 1946, in March that year Rene married Walter James Davey (b1911 at Deddington, Tasmania) - Walter had served in the AIF (Service No:TX5535) and was also Discharged in March 1946. Rene and Walter settled in Scottsdale where they raised their family and Walter was a Farmer. Walter died in 1980 and Rene in 2015.
