Chief Petty Officer Harold Valdimear Tychsen (Service No:F3805) enlisted in the RAN in Fremantle on 25 June 1941, and was attached to HMAS Leeuwin at Discharge on 11 February 1945.

Eldest of six children, Harry was born in Korong Vale, Victoria in 1905 to Bruno (Bert) O'Connor Tychsen (b1881 in Hotham, Victoria) and Ada (Louisa) Louise Cribb (b1879 in Melbourne, Victoria). Bert started work with the VGR in 1897 as a Lad Labourer with the Locomotive Branch in Melbourne, and was a Train Examiner in Korong Vale in 1904 when he and Louisa married in Melbourne. The couple lived in Korong Vale, where Bert was a Train Examiner, before moving to Melbourne in 1909 - Bert was a Train Examiner. By 1911 Bert and Louisa had moved to Western Australia and settled in Perth, where they raised their family and Bert worked as an Engineer and Newspaper Machinist.

Harry was working as an Engineer in Victoria Park in 1929 when he married his first wife Rita Clara Graham (b1905 in Burbanks via Coolgarde, Western Australia). Following his Discharge from the RAN in 1945, Harry and Rita divorced in 1946 - both remarried. Harry settled in Maddington and worked as an Engineer - in 1947 he remarried to Silvia Flint (b1908 in Coolgardie, Western Australia) - Silvia was a Typist in Victoria Park. Harry and Silvia settled in Maddington, where Harry worked as an Engineer until his death in 1961. Silvia died in 2006.
