Leading Teleprinter (T/P) Operator Winifred Ruby Dobbie (Service No:WR/1957) served in the RAN on HMAS Lonsdale from 2 August 1943 to 9 April 1946.
Win was born in Melbourne, Victoria in 1921, second of three children of Clarence Stanley Dobbie (b1889 in Launceston, Tasmania) and Ruby Elizabeth Penrose (b1892 in Melbourne, Victoria). Clarence was a Jeweller when he and Ruby married in 1916 in Melbourne, Victoria. Clarence and Ruby settled in Melbourne where Clarence was a Jeweller until 1920, when he and his brother established Dobbie Brothers Opticians - later to become Dobbie Bros Optical and Scientific Instrument Co.
Win worked as Typiste in Melbourne before enlisting in the WRAN and was in Melbourne in 1948 when she married Lyle Laurence Hattam (b1922 in Melbourne, Victoria) - Lyle had served in the Army in WWII. Win and Lyle settled in Brighton, Melbourne where they raised their family and Lyle was a Manager and Draper. Lyle died in 2008 and Win (aged 101 years) in 2022 . 'A long life well lived.
