Add my storyBiography contributed by Maxine Dawes
Mervyn Charles Dawes was born on 23 January 1923 in Bunyip, Victoria to parents Edmund and Elizabeth (nee Berry) Withers Dawes. He had one sister Merle and three brothers Kevin ( Darby),
Graham and Edmund. He became engaged to Edith May Angwin and married her on 26 April 1943. He served in the navy during WW2 from May 30 1941 until his discharge in 24 July 1945 his enlistment number PM 3709. His last posting was on HMAS Lonsdale. Upon his discharge the family lived on a Buln Buln farm for a long time and they had a dairy farm. There they bore and raised their five children. Judith, Keith, John (Mervyn), Rodney and Ian. As they got older they had a change of plans and moved to Ballina in New South Wales. They ran a motel. Mervyn remarried to Judy Stone.
He died in 1998 and is buried in the East Ballina Cemetery. My memories of my uncle Mervyn are that he was a kind man with a great sense of humour - our family spent many wonderful times on the farm rounding up cows, spending time with our cousins and sloshing around in the mud.
