The youngest of two sons, Roger was born in 1924 in Perth WA to Richard Haynes Utting (b1887 in London, England) and Annie Laura Poulson (b1889 in Suffolk, England). Richard (a Porter with WAGR) and Annie (a Domestic Cook) married in 1911 in Perth WA. Richard worked as a Clerk for WAGR until he retired in 1952 - with breaks for Service in WWI (Private; Service No:52005) and WWII (Private: Service No:W31612).

Roger was a Clerk with WAGR when he enlisted in the RAN in July 1943 (Service No:F5170). He served on a number of ships, including HMAS Cerberus, Leeuwin, Magnetic, Moreton, Penguin, Torrens and Melville and was a Telegraphist attached to HMAS Leeuwin when he Discharged in August 1946. Brother Philip (Service No:415287) also served in WWII.

In 1949 Roger was settled in Perth WA and working as a Clerk for WAGR when he married Florence Alice Arnold (b1925 in Perth WA) - Florence was a Stenographer. Roger and Florence settled in Perth and Fremantle where Roger was a Clerk. He died in 1997 and Florence in 2017.
