Colin initially joined the Royal Australian Naval Reserve as a Ordinary Singelman and was mobolized to the Royal Australian Navy on the 5 March 1941 as a wireman, with his home base being HMAS Leewin in Fremantle, Western Australia.

Colin spent time training at HMAS Leewin, HMAS Kuttabul in New South Wales and at HMAS Cerebus in Victoria where he gained his qualification as an Electrical Mechanic.

Colin's saw sea time during the WW2 was on two minesweepers HMAS Bungaree and Warrego in the seas around northern Australia and New Guinea.

After the war Colin married in 1947, settled and raised their family whilst living at 12 Bennett Street, East Perth. Colin worked with the State Electricity Commission for his whole working life finishing his career as supervisor of the Metering Division.

After the untimely death of his wife and then retiring, Colin relocated to a new house in Joel Terrace, Mt Lawley where he lived until his death.
