On the 14th of October 1915 Alexander McDonald Ramsay joined the Australian Imperial Force and was enlisted in Adelaide SA. Alexander was born on December 12th, 1884, in Glasgow Scotland. He was married to Anne Hilda Gwenolyne and together had 2 children, he also lived in Bedford Street Port Adelaide South Australia. He worked as an engineer. 

He embarked from Australia on 20/3/16. On the 13/8/16 Alexander travelled from England to France, but on the 9th of October 1916 Alexander fell sick and was admitted to the hospital with nephritis. He was then transferred to Guildford War Hospital 5 days later but then discharged to Weymouth on the 30th of October that same year. On the 12th of April 1917, Alexander returned to Australia and arrived in Melbourne by hospital transport.
