Petty Officer Edward Francis Tyrell, 25, whose name was in the Victorian list of missing, is the third son of Mrs. C. Tyrell, of Second avenue, Cheltenham, and the late Capt. John Tyrell. Before his transfer from Stuart to Perth last August, the Stuart's commander tried to retain P.O. Tyrell because of his gunnery skill. He had been in the Stuart for two years before joing the Perth. P.O. Tyrell came from a long line of seafarers. His father was captain of the steamer Theory, which was rammed and sunk by a liner in the English Channel a month after World War I. ended. Capt. Tyrell had transported munitions throughout the war without mishap. His eldest son was in the Theory when it went down. Father and son were drowned. P.O. Tyrell had been in the Navy for six years.
