Sub Lieutenant Ian David Wilson (Service No:24972) initially served in the ACMF (Private; Service No:V43756), enlisting on 20 May 1941, and was a Corporal attached to 15/60 Infantry Battalion when he Discharged to enlist in the RAN on 27 October 1941. Rated as an Ordinary Coder attached to HMAS Cerberus, he was promoted to Coder on 27 October 1942 (HMAS Westralia) and to Sub Lieutenant on 8 February 1945. Sub Lieutenant Wilson was attached to HMAS Lonsdale at Discharge on 7 March 1946.

Ian was born in Geelong, Victoria in 1921, eldest of three children of David Russell Wilson (b1893 in Lancashire, Scotland) and Isabella May Quinton (b1897 in Melbourne, Victoria). David (a Real Estate Agent) and Isabella married in Melbourne in 1920 and lived briefly in Geelong before returning to Melbourne where Isabella owned a Confectionary Shop and David worked as a Motor Driver. In 1927 they lived in Olinda, where David worked as a Grocer's Assistant and then opened his own Grocer Shop, which was lost through gambling. David and Isabella separated in 1930 and were Divorced in 1933.

Ian worked in Melbourne as a Junior Clerk (Printing) before enlisting in WWII, and following his Discharge, was working as a Clerk in Melbourne in 1951 when he married Jean Roberta Simpkin (b1925 in Beaufort, Victoria) - Jean was worikng in Melbourne as a Clerk, and had served in the WRAN as a Leading Writer (Service No:W/r2084) on HMAS Lansdale. Ian and Jean settled in Melbourne where they raised their family and Ian worked as a Clerk. Ian died in 2003 and Jean in 2018.
