Patrick Hugh HENRY (Service Number 2423) was born on 8th October 1893 at Blayney NSW.. He commenced working for the NSW Government Railways in the Per-Way Branch as a junior labourer in the Western Division on 6th June 1912. In April 1915 his role was as a fettler between Nyngan and Bourke, and in July between Orange and Parkes. He was given leave to join the Expeditionary Forces in April 1916.

He enlisted at Parkes on 8th April, giving his father as his next of kin, his calling as railway fettler and apprentice blacksmith.

He left Australia from Sydney on 19th September 1916 aboard HMAT ‘Mashobra’ and reached Plymouth on 2nd November.  Six weeks later he went to France and joined the 53rd Australian Infantry Battalion on Christmas Eve. In January 1917 he was sent for duty as Flesselles. In June he went to the Brigade Lewis Gun School.

In September 1917 he was promoted to Lance Corporal.

Only three weeks later he was killed in action. He has no known grave, he is remembered on the Menin Gate Memorial in Flanders.
