Biography contributed by Chris Buckley

Stoker Morton Henry Worland (Service Nos:V170972/W2770) initially served in the ACMF as a Private with 4 Training Battalion and Area Signals from 13 April 1942 to Discharge on 23 December 1942 (Underage - gave false DoB on Attestation Papers). Stoker Worland then enlisted in the RAN on 31 March 1943 and was attached to HMAS Cerberus (and other ships, including Penguin, Rushcutter Townsville and Kalgoorlie). Stoker Worland was attached to HMAS Lonsdale at Discharge on 20 May 1946.

Morton was born in Warrnambool, Victoria in 1925, only child of Henri James Worland (b1883 in Warrnambool, Victoria) and his second wife Annie (Birdie) Ada Bird (b1893 in Bairnsdale, Victoria). Henri was a Widower with three children in 1919 when he and Birdie married in Warrnambool - Henri had been Town Clerk in Warrnambool and Shire Secretary in Seymour. Henri and Birdie settled in Warrnambool, where they raised their family and Henri was Town Clerk, a JP and Magistrate, and member of the Warrnambool Hospital Committee and Technical School Council.

Morton was working in Warrnambool as a Cadet Journalist when he enlisted in the ACMF in 1942 - Discharged the same year for being underage - having given the incorrect DoB in his Attestation. In 1943 Morton enlisted in the RAN and, following his Discharge, in 1948 in Melbourne, married Janet Patricia Barclay (b1928) - Janet was working in Melbourne as a Laundrywoman. In 1953 Janet filed for Divorce, and both later remarried. Morton moved to Macky QLD in the mid 1950s, where he worked as a Restaurateur and, from the early 1960s, as a Labourer and Storeman. Morton died in 1988.
