Ordinary Seaman (Telegraphist) Norman George Lehey (Service No:PM5790) served in the RAN from 17 February 1943 (Ordinary Seaman on board HMAS Cerberus) to 3 July 1946 (Telegraphist on board HMAS Lonsdale).
Norm was born in Melbourne, Victoria in 1923, eldest of three children of Owen (aka Gorge) Francis Lehey (b1894 in Mt Gambier, South Australia) and Ruby Myrtle Lohman (b1900 in Melbourne, Victoria). George served in WWI (Private; Service No:3430) and was a Tailor in 1922 when he and Ruby married in Melbourne, where they settled and raised their family and George was a Tailor/Presser.
Norm was working in Melbourne as a Telegraph Messenger (Postmaster Generals Dept) in 1943 when he enlisted in the RAN. In 1945 in Melbourne he married Audrey Eileen Herbert (b1924 in Melbourne, Victoria). Following his Discharge from the RAN, Norm and Audrey settled in Melbourne - Norm studied and by 1954 was an Architect - he worked in Australia, Malaysia and England. Norm died in 2009 and Audrey in 2019.
