Able Seaman Donald Nellthorp Quibell (Service No:33961) enlisted in the RAN as an Ordinary Seaman on 6 June 1945 (HMAS Cerberus). Rated Able Seaman on 21 April 1946, he served on HMAS Kuttabul and was attached to HMAS Lonsdale at Discharge on 27 November 1950.

Don was born in Stratford, Victoria in 1926, youngest of six children of Arthur Nellthorp-Quibell (b1886 in Elaine via Ballarat, Victoria) and Isabella (Bell) Edith Morriss (b1888 in Dimboola, Victoria). Arthur (a Railways Employee) and Bell married in 1912 in Melbourne and lived there and in Sale, Bruthen and Stratford, where they raised their family and Arthur worked for the Railways.

Don worked in Stratford as a Labourer before enlisting in the RAN in 1945. He was in Melbourne in 1948 when he married first wife - Dorothy June Morley (b1926 in Melbourne, Victoria). Following his Discharge in 1950, Don and Dorothy lived in Stratford, where Don was a Grocer. Divorcing in 1957, Dorothy remarried and Don joined the Postmaster Generals Department as a Postal Officer - in Rosedale, Gippsland then in Adelaide, South Australia in 1957. Don transferred to Darwin NT in 1958 and was living in Sydney, NSW in 1962 when he remarried - Joan Valerie Westaway (nee Roberts; b1928 in Melbourne, Victoria). Don and Joan lived in Sydney and Tinonee via Taree, NSW - Don worked for the PMGs Dept as a Postal Officer and Clerk until Retirement when they moved to Wangan via Innisfail, QLD. Don died in 2008 and Joan in 2013.
