Chief Petty Officer Horace Wilhelm Keith McQuinn (Service No:Pm7650) served in the RANR from 24 July 1944 to 1 March 1946, and was attached to HMAS Lonsdale at Discharge. He had previously served in the Militia (Service No:185481) with 39th Battalion from 17 June 1930 to 8 December 1933.
Keith was born in Melbourne, Victoria in 1911, second of four children of Thomas (Horrie/Mac) Horace Abbott McQuinn (b1890 in Dubbo, NSW) and his first wife Eva Julia Saunders (b1887 in Melbourne, Victoria). Horrie (an Iron Moulder and Electrician) and Eva married in Melbourne in 1910, and divorced in 1919. In 1918, Horrie enlisted in the AIF from August to December (Private; Service No:79084), and in 1919 he remarried to Ethel Amy Watson (b1897 in Melbourne, Victoria). Horrie and Ethel settled in Melbourne, where they raised their family and Horrie was an Electrician and Engineer. Horrie registered a number of patents, including for 'traps for sinks and other analogous articles' (1912) and for frames for electrical radiators (1925) - he and son Keith were in partnership in the early 1940s as McQuinn Electric Co.
Keith worked in Melbourne as a Mechanic and Engineer, and in 1939 in Melbourne, married Mavis (Elva) Askew (b1914 in Reefton, New Zealand) - Elva was working in Melbourne as a Seamstress. Keith and Elva settled in Melbourne where they raised their family, and Keith worked as an Engineer and Foreman. Keith died in 1970 and Elva in 1977.
