Wilfred Curtis

Wilfred Curtis was born 11 June 1892 in Chepstow, Monmouthshire, Wales to parents John Charles Osbaldeston Curtis and Matilda Murray Tucker.

He worked in his father’s boot business in Chepstow until he emigrated to Australia in 1913. He joined his brother Frederick Charles Curtis and together they worked on Fred’s farm lease at Munduberra, Queensland, clearing the land of prickly pear and trees with a dream of planting citrus.
Wilfred enlisted on 15 March 1916 in Brisbane and was assigned to the 42nd Infantry Battalion at Enogerra, Brisbane. He sailed from Brisbane on HMAT Booorara on 16 August 1916 via Sydney and Cape Town, arriving in Plymouth on 13 October 1916.
He proceeded overseas to France on 25 November 1916 and was killed on 14 February 1917. He is buried in Cité Bonjean Military Cemetery, Armentieres, Departement du Nord, Nord-Pas-de-Calais, France.
