Stanley was born in London England but moved to Australia in his younger days and lived in Bendigo and Melbourne for the rest of his life. He was a garderer who was well known for his abilty to get the hardest of plants to flourish and to get a garden looking lovely. He served in the Boer War and the first World War. When World War II broke out he went to the enrollment office but was told "Go home mate, you have done your bit"
