Able Seaman Phillip Edward Hickey (Service No:PM5192) initially enlisted in the ACMF (Private; Service No:V54957) on 23 April 1940 and served with 5 Battalion VSR and 4 Australian General Transport Coy. He enlisted in the RAN on 18 November 1942 and service included HMAS Cerberus, Penguin, Ipswich and Leeuwin. Able Seaman Hickey was attached to HMAS Lonsdale when he Discharged on 12 June 1946.
Born in 1920 in Melbourne Victoria, Phillip was the eighth of nine children of John Patrick Cyril Hickey (b1875 in Melbourne, Victoria) and Mary Ellen Stewart (b1880 in Port Fairy, Victoria). John (a Traveller) and Mary married in 1905 in Melbourne, Victoria where they settled and raised their family and John worked as a Traveller, Salesman and Agent.
Phillip worked as a Hotel Baggage Clerk and Driver in Melbourne, Victoria where in 1949 he married Teresa Mary Daley (b1921 in Melbourne, Victoria). In the early 1950s Phillip and Teresa moved to Sydney NSW where Phillip worked as a Ship's Steward. Phillip died in 1964 and Teresa in 1978.
