Joe enlisted on the 14th March, 1916 in Berriedale. He arrived in France on 21st November, 1916. He was injured in action in France on the 11th June, 1917. He suffered a fractured skull & a gunshot wound to his right shoulder & left thigh. He returned to Australia on the 3rd January, 1918 & was discharged on 11th February, 1918. He served in the Army with the 35th Battalian.
