Herman's parents were Martin Henry Warneminde and Ellen Elizabeth Collins. Herman's father was the licensed victualler of the North Pine Hotel in 1903. Herman attended North Pine State School. He was working as a farmer when he enlisted 17 July 1915. He returned to Australia 1919. He married Florence Mary Doughty in 1921, they were living at Sandgate. Two of Herman's brothers enlisted, Claude James [Lieutenant] who died and Leonard David [2654].
