Son of Emily Upton of Goodchap Street, Surry Hills, NSW

13 January 1917 - enlisted at Newcastle, NSW, with the 53rd Battalion and with the rank of Private.

17 February 1918 - attached to the 14th Light Trench Mortar Battery

21 April 1918 - detached back to the 53rd Battalion.

16 July 1918 - transferred to the Australian Employmnet Company

25 March 1919 - commenced return to Australia aboard HT Port Denison disembarking on 10 May 1919

Medals: British War Medal, Victory Medal

30 June 1919 - discharged at the 2nd Military District
