Son of William Lloyd Taylor Osborne and Margaret Osborne nee Smith of Kent Street, Miller's Point, NSW. Prior to coming to Australia Willam had served in the Michigan Cavalry.
Commenced return to Australia on 13 March 1919 aboard HT Ulimaroa disembarking on 24 April 1919 at Melbourne for onward travel to Sydney
