Son of Patrick and Honor KELLY-HEALY of Ruthven Street, Toowoomba, Qld.  He entered the Public Service as a clerk in the C.P.S. Office, subsequently being transferred to Miles and Chinchilla as C.P.S. and Land Ranger.

In Feburary 1917 he returned to England from France and entered St. John's College, Cambridge as a cadet and passed his examination, for the Rank of Second-Lieutenant, returning to France.
