Private Claude Giffin Miller (Service No:54244) enlisted in the AIF on 24 January 1918, and was attached to 6th General Service Reinforcements (NSW) when he embarked with his Unit from Sydney for London on 19 June 1918 on board SS Feldmarschall. Private Miller was attached to 1st Divisional Ammunition Column at Discharge on 26 September 1919. Private Miller's two younger brothers (Wilfred and Charles) also served in WWI, and all three of his sons and both sons-in-law served in WWII.
Claude was born in Molong, NSW in 1887, sixth of eleven children of Charles Augustus Miller (nee Muller; b1844 in Weisbaden, Germany) and Sarah Ann Giffin (b1854 in Bathurst, NSW). Charles immigrated in 1857, arriving in Sydney NSW on board the Helvezia, and by 1880 was a Farmer/Grazier in Molong, when he and Sarah married. They settled at Manildra via Molong, where they raised their family and Charles was a Farmer/Grazier until his death in 1895.
Claude was a Farmer at Manildra, and in 1913 in Molong, married Jessie Maud Griffith (b1888 in Molong, NSW). Claude and Jessie settled at 'Enmong' (and later 'Bald Hills') in Manildra, where they raised their family and Claude was a Farmer. Claude served as Shire Counciller and as Director on the Molong Pastures Protection Board. Claude died in 1958 and Jessie in 1974.
