20/10/1916  Embarked on board HMAT Port Lincoln A17, out of Melbourne
                    as a Private with the 10th Infantry Brigade, 38th Infantry Battalion, 4th Reinforcements

2354 PTE William John Quintress Lobb, 38th Battalion.  9th Brigade, 3rd Division (Sir John Monash’s Division).

4/12/1916    transferred ship at Sierra Leone - on board Willogera to Plymouth

29/12/1916  disembarked into Plymouth, England

28/3/1917    proceeded overseas to France, ex Folkestone
29/3/1917    marched in ex England, to Etaples, France
                    into 3rd Australian Divisional Base Depot

2/4/1917      taken on strength into 38th Infantry Battalion

18/5/1917    sick to hospital - in the field (rejoined unit same day)

The 38th fought in its first major battle at Messines, in Belgium, between 7-9 June 1917.

8/6/1917      Killed in action in Messines, Belgium (in the field)
                    having been shot in the heart by a German sniper
buried in:     a large shell hole about 1500 yards South South West of Messines

NO known grave was found.

His name is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial Part 8 (Australians L-Q).

His name is also commemorated and located at panel 130 in the Commemorative Area (www.awm.gov.au) at the
Australian War Memorial, Canberra, ACT.
