Doug was the eldest of two children of Murdock McInnes (b1881 in Glasgow, Scotland) and Rosina Esket (b1892 in Durham, Northumberland). Murdock (a Labourer) and Rosina married in 1916 in Perth WA. Murdock was a Grocer in 1916 when he enlisted in the AIF (Service No:3407A) and he and Rosina lived in Perth and Fremantle where Murdock was a Clerk.

Doug enlisted in the RAN in April 1941 (Service No:F/V43) and was Telegraphist on HMAS Leeuwin, Penguin and Rushcutter. In May 1943 he was attached to HMAS Rushcutter when he was Discharged on medical grounds - according to the medical report Doug was suffering from post concussion syndrome and a fractured skull 'in part due to war service' (National Archives Australia.

In 1944 in Perth WA Doug married Anna Eastlake (b1919 in Perth WA) - Anna was a Dressmaker. Doug and Anna settled in Perth WA and Doug had resumed employment by 1954, when he was working as a Clerk. Doug died in 1988 and Anna in 2005.
