Phyllis McGregor was born in Sydney in December 1917 and prior to her enrolment in the WRANS in February 1942 she was employed as a typist. Phyllis was initially rated as a Writer (Teleprinter) and later as a WRAN Writer. She was posted to HMAS Lonsdale for duties at the Monterey Signal Unit in Melbourne. She discharged from the WRANS in January 1946.
Post war she returned to her family home in Petersham and employment as a typist. In 1963 Phyllis married Ernest Dalton Austwick. Ernest had served in the AIF from 1940 to 1944 as Captain in the Signal Corps. The couple set up home in Earlwood in Sydney with Ernest working as a TV Mechanic and Phyllis as a secretary.
Ernest Dalton passed away in 1998 and Phyllis on the 20th of January 2000.
Phyllis was cremated and her ashes are interred in the Henry Lawson Gardens, Panel 4 (Services) position 0091 at the Woronora Cemetery in Sydney.
