“Les” Walter was born at Coghill’s Creek, 25 km NNW from Ballarat and was a 21-year-old single Farmer when he enlisted in Ballarat on 17 July 1915 on the same day. He had served two years in C Troop, A Squadron, 19th (Yarrowee) Light Horse, which covered the Clunes area and Ballarat’s 71st Infantry. Les commenced his service on 12 August. Driver Walter was returned to Australia on the troopship Devanha on 8 May 1919, disembarked in Melbourne on 23 June and was discharged from the AIF on 30 September 1919 as Medically Unfit, the disability not being stated.
