Grant High School is a large, co-educational, comprehensive state high school that opened in 1961. The school is named after Lieutenant James Grant, Commander of HMS Lady Nelson (1800). Lieutenant Grant, sailing on the Lady Nelson on the Southern Ocean, sighted and named Cape Northumberland, Cape Banks, Mount Schank and Mount Gambier in December 1800.
