1/45 Infantry Battalion AMF (City of Sydney / St George Regiment)

About This Unit

1/45 Infantry Battalion AMF: (City of Sydney / St George Regiment)

Prior to September 1942, both the 1st Infantry Battalion and the 45th Infantry Battalion had been separate Militia units, with very famous WW1 antecedents, serving in New South Wales and populated with drafts of 'Eligible Males' under the war-time National Service provisions.  In September 1942, however, the units were linked together to form the 1/45 Infantry Battalion, for Homeland Defence tasking. By 1944, with the Japanese threat receding and the manpower demands of indsustry and agriculture growing strongly, and with no prospect of deployment overseas, the 1/45 Infantry Battalion was disbanded.
