About This Unit
Prior to September 1942, both the 1st Infantry Battalion and the 45th Infantry Battalion had been Militia units, with very famous WW1 antecedents, serving in New South Wales and populated with drafts of 'Eligible Males'. In September 1942, however, the units were linked together to form the 1/45 Infantry Battalion, for tasking in Homeland Defence. By 1944, with the Japanese threat receding and the manpower demans of indsustry and agriculture grpwoing strongly, and woith no prospect of overseas deployment overseas, the 1/45 Infantry Battalion was disbanded.
