About This Unit
The 40th Battalion was raised from Tasmanian recruits. It also had small numbers of men from South Australia and Victoria. It was to be the last of the four Battalions forming the 10th Brigade, as denoted by its Colour patch; the eliptical shape denotes the Third Division, the red lower half the second brigade of the division and the white upper half the fourth battalion of that brigade.
