About This Unit
The 36th Battalion was raised in NSW at Newcastle, and its initial complement was made up of men specifically recruited from rifle clubs around the State. It was to be the last of four Battalions forming the 9th Brigade, as denoted by its Colour patch; the eliptical shape denotes the Third Division, the green lower half the first brigade of the division and the white upper half the fourth battalion of that brigade.
