Camp Hospitals WW2

About This Unit

Camp Hospitals - Australia WW2

Camp Hospitals were raised in almost every camp established by the Army throughout Australia in WW2.  Major units (Battalions)  that transitted through these camps generally had their own Regimental Aid Post (RAP) headed by a Captain Medical Officer, and access to Field Ambulances which were part of their parent Brigade.  Smaller elements relied on the Camp Hospitals.

Hospitalisations of a longer duration would generally be referred to the General Hospital system (see separate unit listing).

As is often the case these units were known by names other than their official titles, which also varied during the course of the war.

These Camp Hospitals were initially commanded by the Military District HQ in each State / Line of Communication Area.
