Base / Advanced / Forward Ordnance Depots
In the early years of the war Ordnance / Ammuniton units were organised along similar means to other Ordnance nits with Ordnance Ammnition Sections raised to man the many dispersed Ammunition Depots. These were later amalgamated into Ordnance Ammunition Companies.
A single large HQ controlled the Base Ammuntion Depots in the Albury area but this was later divided into three Ammnition Depots. In early 1942, Advanced Ammunition Depots were formed.
Numbering locations and chains of command varied throughout the war. The unit structres applicable to the Nominal Rolls form which these lists are derived are largely as they were at war's end with the exception of units of the 8th Division lost in Malaya / Singapore which retained their original nomenclature.
