No. 107 Squadron (RAAF)

No. 107 Squadron was a Royal Australian Air Force maritime patrol squadron of World War II. It was formed in May 1943 and based t Rathmines north of Newcastle in New Soth Wales.  It was equipped with the single engine Vought OS2U Kingfisher floatplane aircraft.  There had been significant levels of enemy sbmarine activity off the east coast of Australia.  Sydney and Newcastle were both shelled by a single submarine and Sydney of course was subjected to the infmos Midget submarine attack in mid 1942.  While mainly Japanese long range submarines, there was a single German U Boat, U-862 which made a patrol into the area.  However the threat progressively receded as Japanese forces lost the initiatve in the Pacific. The squadron conducted anti-submarine patrols off the Australian east coast during the last years of the war, but did not encounter any enemy submarines. It was disbanded in October 1945.
