About This Unit
The 2nd Division was raised in Australia as the 1st departed Australia's shores, and comprised three Brigades;
the 5th Brigade (NSW)
6th Brigade (VIC), and
7th Brigade ('outer' States)
They began embarkation in November 1914 and consolidated and trained in Egypt taking part in the defence of the Suez Canal before landing at Gallipoli from 12th September 1915 where they remained until the evacuation in December.
